Public Board Bargaining Update
Dear Sisters and Brothers,
We are pleased to share that CUPE Local 218 has reached a local settlement with three of our four units at the Durham District School Board (DDSB). The Office/Clerical/Technical (OCT), Continuing Education (ConED), and Custodial/Maintenance (CM) units have all ratified their deals. The DDSB has confirmed that the Board of Trustees have also ratified the deals for those three units.
However, we have not yet reached a deal for the Educational Assistants/Outdoor Education Instructors unit (1140 members), and in fact, we seem to be at an impasse. The Union isn’t making new demands; we simply want to maintain the language we have worked so hard to bargain for over the years. Unfortunately, the Employer is still seeking a concession to the language in the Collective Agreement in one area.
The EA’s are awaiting the Employer’s response to their final offer. We are hoping to resolve the issues with the EA group and they will receive further correspondence as necessary.
In solidarity,
CUPE Local 218
