Update on the Status of Voluntary Redeployment

Good Afternoon,

As we come to the close of Education Week and week 8 of social distancing, I want to thank all of the local executive teams and members who are working hard within the context of distance learning during this unprecedented time.

This email is serves a dual purpose – an update on the status of voluntary redeployment and a request for information that we need to provide the Ministry to continue the advocacy work we do on behalf of CUPE Education Workers across Ontario.

Update –

The path towards Voluntary Redeployment has been frustrating for all of us.  After the government placed a short time line for endorsement, there has been a significant delay in delivering accurate information to the participating parties.  To be clear, we have been able to advocate significant improvements to the initial concept, however until the Ministry of Education provides the final documents we are unable to share information. Once documents outlining guidelines are prepared by the Ministry, we will distribute to the locals.  The Council of Trustees Association will share these same documents with your employers.  We will also ensure that a town hall for presidents will be held so that the document may be reviewed and inquiries answered.  A question and answer document will then be available as this will be the most accurate information available.  Local presidents, with the support of their staff reps will need to sign off on documents with the local employer.

We have reached out the Assistant Deputy Minister today to express our concerns with this delay.  We have been told that the program and documents will be ready to go by early next week.

We appreciate your patience, we know this has been a very trying time for all.
