Voluntary Redeployment

April 26, 2020

I hope that everyone is doing well and staying safe.

This afternoon the Local Presidents and the Leadership of the OSBCU discussed the possibility of Voluntary Redeployment. There will be ongoing discussions with the Ministry starting Monday, April 27, 2020 and we will receive more information as the plan for support evolves.

Approximately, only 3,000 volunteers across the Province from may be requested to assist based on their skill set, positions and geographical area. The basic principles of redeployment are continuing to be discussed and will be in place regarding the safety and pay rates.

The voluntary redeployment will not be up to the Employers but will be a Provincial initiative. Volunteering to assist in the redeployment will be a big plus in the Province not opening up the Collective Agreements and to assist with the prevention of layoffs. To date there is no change to our employment or wages.

Once again, this is a Voluntary Redeployment and details will be released as soon as we receive them. At this point we are working to get the information to our members to ensure transparency.
