Post Card

February 22, 2024

Dear Sisters and Brothers,

Under Ministry PPM 128, “A school should be a place that promotes responsibility, respect, civility, and
academic excellence in a safe learning and teaching environment.”

We are asking that Trustees make certain there is a Code of Conduct that ensures safe and respectful
working conditions for all students and staff. Codes of Conduct are only effective if they are widely
communicated and if they are adhered to.

You should have enough postcards for all employees in your school – all CUPE and all ETFO members
(Teachers, OTs and DECEs). This is a shared campaign between the three ETFO Locals, OSSTF and
CUPE – we are looking to raise our common issue of behaviour in our schools.

We are asking that all members complete the cards by indicating why this is an important issue for them,
and checking off their Local. It is up to the employee if they sign/indicate their school on their card. Extra
cards for any daily OTs, Casuals, LTO’s or centrally assigned staff in the building are also included. The
postcards will be delivered to Trustees after the March break.

Please collect all completed cards (ETFO and CUPE) and send them via the courier to the CUPE Local
218 or to ETFO Durham Teachers’ office no later than Tuesday March 5. If they are not picked up on
Tuesday March 5th it will not make it to our office in time to be part of the delivery to the Board of Trustees.

Thank you for your help in this important campaign!

In Solidarity,
CUPE Local 218
