In-person Summer Learning

Thank you for your support of summer learning programs for students across the province. We are writing to advise you that in-person summer learning will be permitted for courses offered in August in addition to the remote learning option.

 

As you know, there has been a continued focus on vaccinations for education sector employees, and we are seeing a strong vaccination uptake among 12 to 17-year-olds. Most recent public health data shows that around 56% of youth aged 12-17 have received at least the first dose of the vaccine.

 

Over the coming weeks, the province will be continuing to focus on youth vaccinations.  To support greater uptake, the government extended the youth-focused vaccination week to July 4, 2021. Permitting in-person summer learning in August will allow the necessary time for first vaccinations to have optimal efficacy and provide additional time for education sector staff and youth to obtain their second vaccines where possible.

 

Schools that offer in-person learning will be required to comply with the health and safety requirements in the Guide to Reopening Ontario’s Schools including:

• Self-screening
• Masking
• Hand hygiene
